My Services
Individual Counseling
People seek therapy for a multitude of reasons; for help coping with major life challenges or transitions, addressing childhood or adult trauma, dealing with depression or anxiety, or simply seeking greater self-knowledge or personal growth. Individual therapy is a process through which a clinician works with clients one-on-one in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. In this space, together we explore feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, as well work through challenging and important personal history. The goal is to help clients better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, and work toward desired change.
I realize that no two people are the same and as such tailor my therapy to meet the specific needs of my clients. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression or any other issue, I will help you recognize underlying problems in order to fully realize your strengths and adjust certain thoughts and behaviors to see things in a different, healthier way. My practice specializes in treating individuals ages 13 and up. I offer comprehensive services treating:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Mood Disorders
- Personality Disorders
- Self-Esteem/Self-Worth Issues
- Trauma
- Commorbid ADD/ADHD
EMDR
According to a study published in the Journal of Traumatic Stress, the prevalence of PTSD is 8.3%, 4.7%, and 3.8% of the population, over a lifetime, the past year, and the past six month period. Add to this those who don’t fit the PTSD criteria, yet face health challenges after enduring adverse life events and the numbers are huge.
This means that millions of Americans just like you are suffering from serious, life-altering signs and symptoms, and they need help to heal and recover.
As overwhelming and complex as trauma can feel, recovery is possible. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is designated as an effective treatment for trauma by the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and many other international health agencies.
So, if one or more of these describe you…
– You struggle with anxiety or depression possibly linked to engrained negative beliefs about yourself or others
– You relive traumatic events with accompanying unwanted memories, vivid images, palpitations, panic attacks
– You are easily startled, feel on edge or are often irritable
– You’d like professional help to better cope with previous trauma
…Then eye movement desensitization and reprocessing could be the right therapeutic approach for you.
EMDR is a powerful psychotherapeutic approach that helps lessen, even eliminate, the painful mental and physical responses raised by the memory of traumatic events and seeks to create new, healthier patterns in your brain.
In EMDR we work with you through eight critical phases to safely identify the distressing memory or memories and those situations that bring emotional and physical suffering, desensitize your body and brain to harmful responses, and aim for rapid and positive therapeutic change. You will also learn techniques to manage stress on your own and enable optimal therapy.
Success with EMDR results in relief from emotional and mental distress, adjustment to self-beliefs, and contributes to a relaxed and calmer mind and body.

Getting Started
Rates and Insurance
INSURANCE
Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services. I am “in network” with Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Ambetter, and QualChoice. I’d recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:
- Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
- Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
- Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
- Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?
PAYMENT
I accept cash, check and all major credit cards as forms of payment. HSA cards are generally accepted as well.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you may be charged for the full rate of the session.
Life can be challenging to navigate. Sometimes, even the strongest people amongst us need a little bit of help to work through some of life’s more challenging hurdles.
MeetHolly Skinner
The human experience is complex. We all need connection and understanding as we navigate life’s challenges, and I feel genuinely grateful to walk alongside my clients at any point in their journey. I have had the privilege of working with children, families, teens, and adults as they reclaim (and sometimes discover) their sense of self and move toward the goals that matter most to them.
To support this process, I draw from a variety of evidence-based practices tailored to meet the unique needs, cultural backgrounds, and preferences of each client. I specialize in and hold an additional credentialing in-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I am also currently pursuing further credentialing in becoming a Certified Personality Disorder Treatment Provider.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri and completed my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Outside of work, I’m a wife and mom of two and a lover of running, travel, and exploring the beautiful state we call home.
